About University of the Incarnate Word

The University of the Incarnate Word, also known as simply UIW, is a private Catholic university in San Antonio, which is the 2nd largest city in the US state of Texas and the 7th largest one in USA, having a population of more than 1 million inhabitants. Located in the American Southwest and the northern part of South Texas, San Antonio is the center of Tejano culture and Texas tourism.

UIW was established in 1881, being founded by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word and originally chartered as a college for women, in 1971, becoming fully coeducational.

Athletics

UIW's sports teams are known as the Cardinals, and they compete in 19 sports for both men and women, in NCAA Division II. Their distinctive colors are red and black.
